Veterinarian who examined seized horses in Black Forest speaks out

Dr. Randy Parker has 25 years of veterinary experience.

He told KRDO NewsChannel 13 when he walked into the Black Forest barn to examine the 10 malnourished horses and four llamas on Monday, he was nearly shocked.

“Obviously it was very surprising to walk into that situation,” Parker said. “In 25 years of vet practice, I haven’t seen anything quite like the shape it was in yesterday.”

Although many may disagree with the way the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office handled this case, Parker does not.

The veterinarian believes at last now the surviving horses are safe.

“The best thing was done,” Parker said. “I think the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office proceeded as best they could in a very difficult situation.”
