Colorado Springs doctor to pay for inappropriate TRICARE billing

A Colorado Springs doctor will pay more than $86,000 to settle allegations that he inappropriately billed TRICARE, the United States military health insurance program.

Dr. David Hatfield will have to pay $1,400 per month as part of the agreement, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado. If he does not make those payments, the government can enforce a consent judgment, which would result in Hatfield having to pay the entire amount of the judgment which is more than $1.2M.

Hatfield provided therapy services to developmentally disabled children. TRICARE pays for that therapy, but not administrative services. From 2008 through 2013, the U.S. Alleges Hatfield and his company, DBH, improperly submitted hundreds of claims to TRICARE for administrative services.
