Wilingness to help Black Forest horses is high

The willingness to help the eight surviving horses found in a Black Forest barn has been high.

On Friday, a woman discovered more than a dozen horse carcasses inside a barn in Black Forest and eight surviving horses that look malnourished.

Since then, many have called and emailed KRDO Newschannel 13 to offer their help, from food to shelter, to proper care. Andrea Harvey and her husband offered transport for the horses. They own a horse transportation company in Pueblo County.

“Anywhere in the country that these horses need to go, to either be rehabbed, or back to their homes where they were originally bred or came from, whatever we could do to help,” she said.

In Colorado Springs, Lauren Martin and her dad stood outside the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region with signs that read, “Save the Horses” and “Justice for Dual Peppy.” Dual Peppy refers to the champion horse that was found in the Black Forest barn. Martin said she wants to raise awareness.

“This hits really close to me, I love horses and I don’t like to see them abused or neglected,” the equine science Graduate said.

Online, thousands have liked the Facebook page, “Justice for Dual Peppy.” People from all over the country and the world are showing their support for the horses there. Some have even offered to buy them.

“Everybody feels the same way that we do,” page founder Kelleen Bliss said. “That something needs to be done to help these horses.”
