Neglected Black Forest horses seized, charges to be filed

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says eight horses that were found hungry and neglected in Black Forest Friday are being seized from the property.

The sheriff’s office also said late Monday that the owner of the horses will face misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.

The animals are being moved to a private facility that works with law enforcement on cases like this, and specializes in caring for horses.

The horses were being moved by the Colorado Humane Society. The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region was transporting some llamas that were found on the property.

A veterinarian was brought in to assess the animals on Monday. The sheriff’s office says the decision to seize the animals was based on the results of that assessment.
