150 Fort Carson soldiers welcomed home

One hundred and fifty Fort Carson soldiers reunited with their families Saturday morning.

It was an emotional homecoming for the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Families made signs to welcome home their loved ones who served in Afghanistan for the past seven months.

“I think you don’t really understand until you go through it, just how many things happen in that span of time,” said Megan Baker. She traveled from the East Coast to surprise her brother as he returned to Fort Carson.

While some soldiers were reuniting with their families, others were anxious to start a family of their own.

Autumn Calhoun waited for her fianc, Lloyd, who proposed to her three days before being deployed.

“It was really difficult for me. I’m a very emotional person,” Calhoun said. “Thankfully, I had great support.”

Now that Lloyd is home, it’s time to start planning a wedding.

“We’re getting married June 17, 2015,” Calhoun said. “Hopefully down by the lake, something small with a big bonfire afterward.”

The soldiers were initially deployed for nine months, but came home early as part of the phased troop reduction in Afghanistan.
