Teacher absences prompt 2 schools to cancel class
Two high schools in the Jefferson County school district have canceled classes for the day because so many teachers are absent.
KMGH-TV reports district officials didn’t say why so many teachers weren’t at Standley Lake and Conifer high schools Friday.
The absences came amid school board discussions of possible changes in the way teachers are paid and the way American history is taught.
The pay plan would deny raises to teachers rated ineffective or partially effective if they’re not on probationary contracts.
The board is also considering establishing a panel to review the way advanced placement classes in U.S. history would be taught under the Common Core State Standards.
That has sparked concerns about censorship.
