Arrest affidavit reveals new details in case against couple accused of arson
Two people have been arrested in connection to a fire that badly damaged a home on Chasewood Loop in Colorado Springs.
The fire was reported around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2014 in the 7500 block of Chasewood Loop.
Jacob Warrum, 26, is facing charges for arson and bribing a witness or victim.
Kendra Warrum, 27, is facing a charge of conspiracy to commit arson.
An arrest affidavit for Jacob Warrum says that the couple reviewed and increased their insurance coverage a few days before the fire.
The affidavit says that firefighters found evidence inside the home that the fire was started intentionally, including two fuel containers. It says firefighters reported the home smelled like gasoline.
Jacob Warrum is a Fort Carson soldier. The arrest papers say that another soldier told investigators that Warrum borrowed his truck. The truck was spotted on a surveillance camera near the home on the night of the fire, and then left in Divide.
Fire officials say neighbors reported hearing explosions before firefighters arrived.
“There was a car up front and I pretty much thought that car was going to blow up because it seemed like the flames were at the car,” neighbor Carole Felder said.
Firefighters say no one was home when the fire started. No one was hurt.
Forty firefighters, including help from the Black Forest Fire District, responded to the fire.
