Police arrest man accused of blowing up house in botched suicide

Caon City Police say they arrested a man who they believe blew up his house while trying to kill himself.

The explosion happened at around 2:30 a.m. Thursday (9/4/14) in the 1500 block of Woodlawn Ave.

Matthew Christensen, 32, was airlifted to the burn center at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver following the blast.

Police confirmed Wednesday (9/10/14) that this was a natural gas explosion and that it happened as Christensen was trying to commit suicide.

Christensen was arrested on September 17, 2014. He is facing arson and criminal mischief charges.

No one else was hurt in the explosion, but everyone living within two blocks of the home was evacuated.

Christensen is now free after posting a $5,000 bond.
