Calhan shooting victim identified

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a man who was shot and killed in Calhan, apparently during an argument over a septic tank.

The shooting was reported at 12:21 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2014.

Michael Mackey, 30, was shot to death on a property in the 9800 block of Calhan Highway.

The El Paso County Coroner said Mackey died from multiple gunshot wounds and that his manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Heather Neville, 59, is accused of pulling the trigger. She was arrested and is facing a charge of first degree murder. Neville appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday.

A neighbor told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that Neville was a tenant on the property, and that her landlord was not giving her access to a septic tank. Neighbors said they believe that disagreement is what led to the shooting.

Neville has children. They are staying with relatives. She will make her next court appearance on September 25.
