Ready responds to controversial comments

The GOP candidate for Pueblo County Commissioner is taking lots of heat for incendiary comments made in a debate when asked by his opponent about his views on the Sandy Hook shootings.

Tom Ready re-posted a Facebook comment from a supporter to his own page alleging the killings of 20 children and six adults in the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school were perpetrated by the federal government to advance a stricter gun control policy throughout the nation.

“What is wrong with questioning something?,” Ready said. “Not saying it didn’t happen, but let’s find out all the facts about it. I don’t want it to happen again.”

Commissioner Sal Pace was stunned by his opponent’s words.

“I was completely shocked by those comments,” Pace said. I think they’re reprehensible. When I asked him the question, I fully anticipated him to take back his comments on Facebook but instead he double downed and tried to explain them even more.”

In a statement to KRDO NewsChannel 13, Becky Mizel, the chair of the Pueblo County Republican Party said:

“Every individual candidate is responsible for their own comments and for the way they explain their own positions on matters of public policy. I have every confidence that Tom can speak for himself and set the record straight regarding what he believes.”
