Broncos defeat Chiefs 24-17 in close game

The Denver Broncos scored their second win Sunday (Sept. 14) against the Kansas City Chiefs at Sports Authority Field.

The Broncos had a strong first half, leading the Chiefs 21-to-10, but the Chiefs would come back to within one touchdown of the Broncos after a scoreless third quarter.

The game would come down to one last possession from Kansas City. The Chiefs would drive the ball to the Denver 37-yard line with 1:56 left to play. Denver defensive end DaMarcus Ware sacked Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, forcing a fumble that was recovered by the Broncos. But an official review overturned the ruling on the field, and possession was returned to the Chiefs.

The game was decided on the Denver goal-line. On fourth down, Smith’s last pass intended for wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was knocked down by Broncos’ defensive tackle Terrance Knighton.

The Broncos will play the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle on Sept. 21.
