Assault charges filed in stabbing of sheriff
Prosecutors have filed charges of assault and menacing against a Meeker-area man accused of stabbing Rio Blanco County Sheriff Si Woodruff.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported Monday 19-year-old Logan Piper was arrested after the Aug. 21 attack in Meeker.
Woodruff is on leave and is expected to recover.
Piper is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond. Jail officials had no record of whether he has an attorney. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 3.
Authorities say Woodruff was stabbed when he intervened in a struggle between Piper and his father in he parking lot of Pioneers Medical Center in Meeker.
