Contractor from Pikes Peak Region Recounts Benghazi Attack

Two years after the attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, the debate of what happened continues.

But a Southern Colorado man, who was assigned to security detail at the nearby Annex that night, says he wants to ‘right’ the mis-information since that fateful day on September 11, 2012.

John Tiegen and five other contractors have come together to detail the nightmare in the book, “13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi” by Mitchell Zuckoff.

Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the attack.

“We were getting ready to hit the rack. We got a call from our team lead. That’s when we initially heard that our consulate was under attack,” said Tiegen in a Skype interview.

Within five minutes, he said, the team was ready to defend the consulate.

The answer?

“Stand down.”

It’s an answer the contractors were told three times.

“We wanted to do the book so that everyone would know the truth of what happened that night,” said Tiegen.

Since the attack, one suspect has been arrested. Ahmed Abu Khatallah has plead not guilty to providing material support to terrorists.
