Fort Carson welcomes home 150 soldiers Saturday

About 150 soldiers who spent the past six months serving in Afghanistan returned to a warm reception at the Mountain Post late Saturday night.

The soldiers, who are with the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, were deployed in March to train, assist and advise Afghan security forces. They helped set the security conditions for Afghanistan’s presidential and runoff elections.

The soldiers were originally supposed to be deployed for nine months but are returning early as part of the phased reduction of troops in Afghanistan.

The homecoming ceremony featured a large number of babies born during the deployment who were meeting their fathers for the first time, as well as many couples who experienced their first deployment.

The homecoming ceremony was at the Special Events Center on post at 11 p.m. Saturday.
