5k race adds color to downtown Colorado Springs
The Color Run made its way to Colorado Springs Saturday.
The 5k race caters to runners of all ages and skill levels, and encourages physical activity. The runners are doused in different colors of paint throughout the course.
There is no official winner of The Color Run. Instead, runners are asked to have fun and enjoy the event.
For Tracy Alip, The Color Run marked another step toward a fitness milestone.
“This is actually my one-year anniversary of weight loss recovery,” Alip said. “I’ve lost about 80 pounds. Before, I could never do anything like this.”
Alip said she nearly backed out of the race at the last minute. After crossing the finish line, she said she had no regrets.
“I’m honestly shocked, and I can’t believe I finished,” she said. “This is the reward of getting healthy. You can do things you never thought you can do. I’m so thankful for that.”
The Color Run has become a family event. Many of the runners had never been in a 5k race before.
“My favorite part is just running with my daughter, and trying to keep up with her pace,” said Stephen Dalfollo-Daley.
Nearly 4,500 people participated in the race.
