New scanner at Colorado Springs Airport designed to be more specific

There’s new scanning technology at Colorado Springs Airport.

It uses less power, shows more precise images and should be more secure for passengers.

The Advanced Imaging Technology Unit, or AIT, searches for shapes of specific objects, which could be banned on a flight.

Flyers walk through just like a traditional metal detector, but the results are clearer.

“One of the biggest groups that like this technology: folks with artificial knees, hips,” said Sam Sheesley, assistant federal security director with TSA at Colorado Springs Airport. “This machine detects anomolies on the body.”

Those scanners are already being used in more than 150 airports across the country.
