Scam warning involving jury duty

The 4th Judicial District Attorney’s office is warning about a scam involving jury duty.

Someone claiming to be with the Office is calling people and telling them that, because they did not appear for jury duty, a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The scammer goes on to say that if the person pays the caller a specified amount of money, the warrant will be canceled. The victim is told to put the money on a green dot money card and send it to them via Western Union.

If the victim says they never got a jury summons, the caller asks for a Social Security number and date of birth to verify the information and cancel the warrant. In some calls, they also asked for the victim’s credit card number.

The district attorney’s office says no one will ever ask you to send money for missing jury duty or cancel an arrest warrant. If you get one of these calls, hang up immediately and call your local law enforcement.
