Police crack down on speeding drivers around schools

Colorado Springs police officers were out in full force Monday, ensuring drivers were obeying traffic signals around the school zones on the first day of school.

“Our motorcycle officers are working school zones in the morning and in the evening,” Colorado Springs Police Sgt. Lance Lazoff said.

Lazoff said speeding is the most common violation around school zones. Officers gave out multiple tickets on the first day of school, he said.

Carmella Reasby said she has noticed speeding around her son’s school, and she feels better picking him up after class.

“I like to be here to guide him,” she said. “I’d rather pick him up than have him crossing the street with this long line of cars along the road.”

Parents, kids and police urge drivers to slow down.
