Brush holds hearing on pot grow at former prison

Residents in Brush are getting another chance to weigh in on a proposal to use a former women’s prison to grow and sell marijuana.

City councilors will hold a second public hearing on the idea Monday evening.

Nicholas Erker of nearby Fort Morgan bought the prison for $150,000 in March. He says the building is one of the safest places to grow pot and held an open house there Sunday to try to persuade residents.

City councilwoman Jeanine Anderson told KMGH-TV that she doesn’t think a large marijuana grow is a good use of the city’s water resources.

Brush has a moratorium on all pot businesses. City councilors need to vote on whether to extend that ban or put the issue to a public vote in November.
