Grandma accused of using grandkids to shoplift

Colorado springs police say a grandmother used her two grandchildren to shoplift.

The Gazette reports that 43-year-old Trina Chavez-Hutchins faces charges of theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She’s accused of enlisting two grandchildren to shoplift merchandise worth about $360 from Sportsmans’ Warehouse.

Video surveillance at the store taken Sunday allegedly shows Chavez-Hutchins selecting items from the shelves with her 10-year-old grandson and 7-year-old granddaughter and placing them into a basket.

A witness told officers that the woman then ran out the door and yelled at her grandchildren to “hurry, get in the car.”

Witnesses at the store took down her license plate number, which led police to Chaves-Hutchins’ home. She was arrested Monday.
