Ex-deputy faces trial on bond-related charges

A former Pueblo County sheriff’s deputy who was acquitted on sexual assault charges now faces a trial on allegations of violating the conditions of his bail.

The Pueblo Chieftain reported Friday Randall Scott Alire is charged with having a weapon, failing to show up for a court date and calling the woman he was accused of assaulting, all while he was free on bond in the sexual assault case.

Defense attorney Allison Ernst argued in court Thursday that prosecutors can’t prove any of the allegations, but the judge ruled the evidence was sufficient to go to trial.

Alire was acquitted in February of kidnapping, sexual assault, menacing, tampering with evidence and third-degree assault.

Alire contended he and the woman had consensual sex.
