Standoff ends peacefully outside of Walgreens in Pueblo

A tense standoff in Pueblo ended peacefully Monday evening (7/14/14).

The situation began at around 2:20 p.m. at the Walgreens near the intersection of Highway 50 west and Morris Avenue.

Police responded to Walgreens after receiving a report of an armed robbery. They ended up in a standoff with Jefferson Thede, 61, of Maine, who was armed with a handgun.

Police tell KRDO NewsChannel 13 Thede stole Oxycontin and Oxycode. During the standoff, officers saw Thede consume prescription pills.

The three-hour long standoff took place outside, on the east side of the store.

A portion of Highway 50 West was closed because of the standoff.
