Kayaker dies on Arkansas River near Buena Vista

A man died when his kayak flipped in the Arkansas River near Buena Vista Friday.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened about 10 miles north of Buena Vista around 3 p.m. Friday.

Johnathan M. Kennedy, 40, from Fayetteville, Arkansas was kayaking in the Pine Creek Rapid section of the river when his kayak flipped. Witnesses said they tried to save him but were unsuccessful.

Kennedy was finally pulled from the river approximately one mile south of the Pine Creek Rapids, deputies said.
