Fort Carson soldiers and families collide in a tearful reunion

Soldiers and families shared hugs and tears at a homecoming ceremony hosted at Fort Carson Thursday night.

Eighty soldiers arrived home from Kuwait. It signified the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team’s official arrivalback at Fort Carson from deployment. Approximately 2,500 soldiers in the brigade were deployed.

Families held signs to welcome home the soldiers. Many signs toddlers toted said they hadn’t seen their deployed parent in almost 300 days.

Ramon Zapata, 7, was overcome with emotion when he saw his dad. He said he felt like his dad had “disappeared” and seeing him made him feel “great.”

“It feels like you finally have someone you can like look up to,” said Zapata.

He said he couldn’t wait to go home and play with his dad.
