1 dead, 7 injured in lightning strike at Rocky Mountain National Park

A park spokesperson says one person has died and seven others were hurt following a lightning strike at Rocky Mountain National Park Friday (7/11/14).

The strike happened on the Ute Cross Trail, which is off of Trail Ridge Road between Rainbow Curve and Forest Canyon Overlook.

One woman died. The seven other victims went to a medical center in Estes Park. Two went by ambulance, the others drove themselves.

No names have been released.

The strike was reported to park staff at approximately 1:20 p.m.
