Highway 24 reopens following flash flood scare

Highway 24 is now open through Ute Pass after being closed Tuesday afternoon because of a flash flood warning.

The warning has been cancelled and no major flooding was reported.

The storm that prompted the warning dropped very heavy rain and hail across parts of Teller and El Paso Counties. Woodland Park was hit especially hard.

The scare comes less than 24 hours after another flash flood warning on another southern Colorado burn scar forced 96 scouts to evacuate from a camp in Huerfano County.

StormTracker 13 Meteorologist Rachael Plath says thunderstorms will remain in the forecast for the next several days, and any of those storms has the potential to prompt a flash flood warning if it moves over a burn scar.
