Judge accepts insanity plea in mother’s stabbing

A judge has accepted an Aurora teenager’s insanity plea in the stabbing death of her mother.

The judge on Thursday reviewed the results of 19-year-old Isabela Guzman’s mental evaluation and ruled she is not guilty by reason of insanity.

She will be sent to the state mental hospital in Pueblo after prosecutors determined she is mentally ill.

Guzman was charged in the Aug. 28 death of 47-year-old Yun-Mi Hoy. Hoy was stabbed 151 times in her home.

A doctor testified Thursday that Guzman is schizophrenic and has suffered from delusions.

District Attorney George Brauchler said she will remain there indefinitely until she is no longer a threat to the community or to herself.
