Future of the Martin Drake Power Plant to be decided

Parts of the Martin Drake Power Plant may come back online by the end of the month, according to Colorado Springs Utilities.

The plant has been offline ever since a fire broke out inside of it in May.

At least one of the power producing units, Unit 6, in the plant is ready to come online for a test, which may occur as early as next week. If the test is successful, Unit 6 may come back online for good.

Electricity costs in Colorado Springs may go down by at least 30 percent if the unit comes back online, according to officials at Colorado Springs Utilities. Rates had increased after the power plant was taken offline.

A panel will discuss the future of the Drake Power Plant Thursday at 7:30 a.m.
