Maketa, Presley at center of new sheriff’s office suit

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is facing a new multimillion dollar lawsuit involving Sheriff Terry Maketa and Undersheriff Paula Presley.

Five sheriff’s office employees say they plan to file claims against the county seeking $2.5 Million.

The employees accuse Maketa and Presley of taking an internal affairs file of then candidate for sheriff Bill Elder.

At the time, Elder was running against John Anderson. The employees say Maketa and Presley were backing Anderson.

The employees, who support Elder, say Maketa and Presley then accused them of taking the file and harassed them for supporting Elder.

Elder is now running unopposed and is expected to become the next sheriff of El Paso County.

The pending suit is the latest in a series of accusations leveled against Maketa in recent weeks. Click here for more coverage of the controversy inside the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
