Bicyclist killed during race at Velodrome identified

A well known, avid cyclist has been identified as the man who died in a crash during a race at the Velodrome Tuesday night (6/12/14).

Police say 20 to 30 bicyclists were participating in a training race when two of the cyclists collided.

Victor Williams, 51, was thrown from his bike in the crash.

Colorado Springs Police said Williams was critically injured and died on the track.

The United States Olympic Committee issued a statement calling the accident an “extraordinarily sad day.”

The accident happened at the 7-Eleven Velodrome track at Memorial Park, which is the official training site for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic track cyclists and USA Roller Sports.
