Flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Fort Carson soldier

Gov. John Hickenlooper has ordered that flags be lowered to half-staff Monday in honor of a 21-year-old Thornton soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.

Fort Carson officials say Pfc. Jacob H. Wykstra was killed in a helicopter crash in Kandahar Province on May 28. He was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Wykstra, whose funeral will be held in Northglenn on Monday, joined the Army last year and was deployed to Afghanistan in January.
