Motorcycle rider in critical condition after crash

A motorcyclist is in critical condition after he crashed in Colorado Springs early Monday morning (5/26/14).

The crash happened around 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of S. Corona Ave. and S. Institute Ave.

Police say the 23-year-old rider lost control of the motorcycle as he was attempting to make a right turn onto Institute Ave. The motorcycle skidded across the road, crashed through a metal fence and the rider was thrown from the bike.

The man was taken to the hospital to treat internal and head injuries. As of Monday morning, he was listed in critical condition.

Police say speed was a factor in the crash, and the man was not wearing a helmet.

The name of the man will not be released until his family has been notified.
