Manitou Springs avoids flooding Saturday

The minor flooding produced by heavy rain in Manitou Springs on Friday night did not reoccur Saturday.

Rainfall remained light to moderate, Fountain Creek remained low and the flood warning did not sound.

A church group in town for a weekend event at the Navigators in Colorado Springs reflected on the potential flood risk.

“I feel pretty safe,” said Allison Misich of Ohio. “I don’t have a lot of experience with areas that have a lot of flash floods, so I’m not familiar with how much damage they can cause.”

“I remember hearing about it when it happened last year because I have some friends who are in this area,” said Alex Litz of Florida. “Since I’ve been here, my phone just started getting flash flood warnings — which is something new to me. So it’s been on my mind a little bit. I’ve been a little wary of the rain.”
