A flash flood watch has been issued for most of the I-25 corridor, including Colorado Springs, Pueblo and the Black Forest and Waldo Canyon burn scars.

The watch will be in effect from 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014 until 12 a.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2014.

This flash flood watch includes the following counties in southern Colorado:

EL PASO
PUEBLO
FREMONT
TELLER

The watch also includes portions of Custer and Huerfano Counties.

Areas that received heavy rain on Friday will be especially prone to flash flooding.

Everyone should have a plan to get to safety should flash flooding threaten. This is especially true for Manitou Springs and people living near the Ute Pass side of the Waldo Canyon burn scar, where the ground is already saturated from heavy rain Friday night.

Keep in mind that highway 24 between Manitou Springs and Woodland Park may be closed if a flash flood warning is issued.

If you plan to travel, you should know that Saturday’s flash flood watch extends northward from Colorado Springs through the Denver metro area all the way to the Wyoming state line.
