Troopers searching for driver who fled double fatal I-25 crash

Colorado State Patrol is searching for a driver who ran over one of two men who died in a crash on I-25 and then left the scene.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. Thursday (5/22/14) on I-25 near milepost 117, north of Pueblo.

Troopers say a moped was traveling southbound when a car crashed into the back of the moped. The moped rider was thrown from the moped. Troopers say an oncoming SUV then tried to avoid the crash, and drove into the center median and rolled over.

The moped rider, Darren Capanna, 51, of Pueblo, was killed. Troopers say he wasn’t wearing a helmet.

The driver of the SUV, Diane Hayes, 61, of Pueblo, was also killed. Troopers say two passengers in the SUV, Angela Geonetta, 45, and Anthony Geonetta, 18, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers are searching for a pickup truck that ran over the driver of the moped and fled the scene.

No description of the truck is available.

Anyone with information is asked to call Colorado State Patrol at 719-544-2424.
