Report of latest improper advance on local child could be 11th this month

While Colorado Springs police seek a man accused of exposing himself to children ten times this month, another man reportedly made a similar advance Tuesday.

Police said say a 15-year-old girl was walking home from Doherty High School around 3:45 p.m., when a man approached her in a white Ford Ranger pickup truck near the intersection of Sodbuster Trail and Portrait Place.

The girl asked her if she needed a ride, police said, but she didn’t respond and walked away while he drove off. Police have not yet found the man.

“How do we know if he was honestly offering her a ride, or had something else in mind?” said police Sgt. Rob Kelley. “We don’t. It’s fairly unusual for a male to approach a juvenile female, and offer a ride just out of friendship. In this case, no one said anything about sexual contact (or) money, Nothing suspicious, but we can’t take chances — especially with that other guy out there.”

A neighbor on Iron Horse trail, where the girl lives, is so concerned about the situation that she confronted a KRDO NewsChannel 13 crew who was in the area. She asked the crew for identification and wanted to know what the crew was doing there

“I’m concerned because society has changed,” said Linda Visinsky, the neighbor. “You have to be very careful with your children, and what happens — and what you have to say to them, is watch out for anybody coming up to you.”

Police said the girl described the man only as a Hispanic mail with neck-length dark hair.

Meanwhile, police continue to look for a man accused of offering girls money to watch him inappropriately touch himself. Police said he’s approached girls 10 times this month. The latest incident happened Monday near the Chapel Hills Mall.

Police said that man likely is driving a full-sized red, maroon or burgundy truck with temporary plates.

If you have any information about any of these incidents, call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
