Space symposium begins in Colorado Springs

You may not think of Colorado Springs as a center for space travel, but thousands of space professionals are gathered in the city this week.

The Broadmoor is hosting the 30th annual Space Symposium.

New inventions are being shown off by both the military and private companies. There will also be speakers covering topics such as cyber security and life on other planets.

While modern technology allows scientists from around the worldto gather whenever they want, organizers say thatthere is still a place for meetings like this one.

The Space Foundation organizes the symposium. Kevin Cook is the vice president of marketing and communication for the organization. He said, “what we do is provide a forum where people can get together and talk about technology, talk about policy in an environment that’s congenial.”

Cook said that one of the newest exhibits is a commercial space plane that is set to launch in early 2015.

The Space Symposium goes through Thursday.
