Search-and-rescue dogs train at Denver airport

Search-and-rescue teams from several states are using a 6-acre rubble pile at Denver International Airport this weekend to train search dogs for disasters.

Airport officials say the dogs are being trained and tested on various rubble piles that simulate a building collapse and other disaster scenarios. The training, which started Saturday and continues through Sunday, includes search-and-rescue teams from Colorado, Utah, Ohio, California and New Mexico.

Some of the dogs were used during flooding in northern and eastern Colorado that killed nine people and damaged or destroyed nearly 2,000 homes in September.
