Man sentenced to prison for threatening Monument school on day of Newtown massacare

The Florida State Attorney’s Office says a man has been sentenced to three years in prison for making threatening phone calls to a school in Monument. He will spend two years on probation once he is released from prison.

Duane Scott Nancarrow was convicted of aggravated stalking by a jury in Florida on March 3, 2014. A judge sentenced him on May 14, 2014.

The conviction and sentence stem from a December 14, 2012 incident in which Nancarrow called Monument Academy Charter School 12 times and a teacher at the school over 40 times.

Nancarrow was targeting a teacher at the school who was a friend of his ex-wife.

The calls were made during the mass shooting at Sandy Hook High School in Newtown, Conn.

During one of the calls, he left a message saying “You watch the TV and see what’s going on in Connecticut, that could happen there, too.” He also left other obscene and threatening messages, including one in which he threatened to put a bullet in the brain of a teacher at the school.

The message triggered a lock down at the school in Monument.

Nancarrow was arrested in Florida on March 21, 2013.
