Wintry weather to persist into Monday
Meteorologist Jay Polk says the cold, wind and snow are going to stick around for the start of the new work week.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for northern El Paso County and Teller County through Monday morning.
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories have also been issued for the mountains southwest of Pueblo where heavy snow is also expected. A Winter Weather Advisory is also in effect through Monday morning for the remainder of El Paso County.
Accumulating snow will also fall across Colorado Springs and Pueblo, especially Sunday night into Monday morning.
Falling tree limbs and power outages could become a concern if heavy snow falls in areas where the trees already have leaves.
Many areas will see several nights of below-freezing low temperatures beginning tonight. This includes Colorado Springs and Pueblo. A Freeze Warning is in effect for tonight and tomorrow morning from El Paso County along the I-25 corridor to the New Mexico state line and eastward through Las Animas County.
Gardeners should make plans now to cover up plants or bring them inside. You will also want to unhook hoses from spigots and take other measures to protect sprinkler systems from temperatures that are expected to drop into the 20s.
