Argument over price of pot may have led to murder

According to an arrest affidavit released Friday, 38-year-old David James Johnson was murdered over two pounds of marijuana.

Police say Johnson and Javar Harrison, 37, were shot while sitting inside a black Lincoln Town Car that was parked in front of Savannah’s Bar and Grill off east Bijou on Tuesday evening.

Harrison was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

In an interview with Harrison in the hospital, police say he told them he had been called by Jason Romeo Forbes, 31, earlier on Tuesday, asking where he could buy two pounds of marijuana.

Harrison says he told Forbes he knew someone (Johnson) who could fill that request, so he told police he set up a meeting at the bar’s parking lot that evening.

By the time Harrison arrived at Savannah’s Tuesday evening, he says Johnson and Forbes were already sitting in the back of the town car. Harrison says he got into the driver’s seat while the two men talked money.

Harrison says he only heard pieces of the conversation but says there was a disagreement over the price and Johnson said “If you don’t want it, don’t take it.” Harrison says Forbes responded, “Dude, how about this,” at which point he allegedly started shooting.

Police say Harrison was able to roll out of the car and was lying on the ground when he says Forbes walked up and shot him twice in the back before driving away.

Forbes was arrested on Thursday evening and faces charges of first-degree murder.
