Colorado Springs celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week

Travelers at the Colorado Springs Airport got a nice surprise today, courtesy of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Arriving passengers at the airport received gift bags with guide books and other goodies Monday.

It’s all part of National Travel and Tourism Week.

The goal was to promote the city as a tourist destination.

“It’s about people arriving at the airport and whether they’re from here or visiting and just them having a good time,” said Alicia McConnell, the chair of the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

One family that we talked todidn’t need anything specialto convince them that the Springs was a top destination.

“I think(Colorado) Springs would be an excellent place to come,” said Chatelle Bush, a visitor from McAllen, Texas.

A report commissioned for the Colorado Tourism Office says that nearly 5 million visitors come to the Pike’s Peak Region each year.
