All-clear given after bomb threat at Colorado Springs Early Colleges

Colorado Springs Early Colleges closed early Friday (5/2/14) after a note with a bomb threat written on it was found in a multipurpose room.

The school said everyone was quickly evacuated and that 400 high school students were sent home for the day.

Parents of students who do not ride the bus were asked to pick up their kids at the northwest corner of the campus, near the 7-Eleven store.

The school was searched and police say nothing dangerous was found.

“The note said specifically that there’s a bomb that’s going to be going off shortly,” said school founder and city councilman Keith King. “We have cameras, so we’ll try to see what we find and go through the process.”

Colorado Technical University also temporarily evacuated because of the threat. CTU and CSEC are in the same facility near the intersection of Garden of the Gods Road and Chestnut Street.

The incident marked the fifth this week in which a local school was evacuated or authorities were placed on alert because of a false threat. Police said the incidents could be pranks that students often commit at the end of the school year.

Anyone suspected of making a false bomb threat could be charged with false reporting of explosives, a felony punishable by up to 18 months in prison.
