Painting thumbnails red as reminder not to text and drive

KRDO NewsChannel 13 is looking to talk with people who are participating in the Red Thumb Reminder event this weekend, sponsored by the Colorado Department of Transportation.

CDOT is asking you to put red fingernail polish on the thumb you use to text on your smartphone. Each time you pick up your phone, the paint reminds you to drive safely and not text at the same time.

CDOT also asks you to post pictures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, then tag @RedThumbReminder and @ColoradoDOT with #redthumbreminder.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 would like to shoot video and interview several people who are painting their thumbnails and taking part in the event. If you’re interested, please leave a message for Scott Harrison at 719-575-6365.

The video and interviews will be gathered Saturday afternoon and be included in a story that airs at 10 p.m. Saturday.
