Investigation underway after llama seen wandering around Trinidad is found dead

A llama that was spotted on the Trinidad State Junior College campus Wednesday (4/16/14) has been found dead outside of town.

The llama’s remains were found near Atchison Canyon, according to the Trinidad Police Department.

Police say two men and two boys who may be responsible for the animal’s death are being interviewed as part of their investigation. They say one of the people being questioned is believed to be part owner of the llama.

Police say an exact cause of death has not been determined. A local veterinarian will examine the remains to try to determine exactly how the llama died.

Once the investigation into the death is complete, the report will be sent to the Las Animas County District Attorney’s office. It will be up to the DA’s office to determine whether any charges should be filed.
