The Manitou Springs Recovery Fund is hosting a community wide forum on Flood and Fire Preparedness for the citizens of this community. Updates on progress made in preparation for this year’s potential emergencies will be made by Mayor Marc Snyder, Police Chief Joe Ribeiro and City Administrator Jack Benson. Board members from the Manitou Springs Emergency Recovery Fund will also be sharing information on ways to volunteer and financially help victims of future flood and fire disasters.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park Archery Range is celebrating its Grand Opening April 5 and 6 with a free weekend on the range. Join us Saturday morning for a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. to officially kick off the festivities.

For this weekend only access to the archery range is free and no individual archery range permit is required. A Colorado State Parks Pass is still needed to enter other areas of the park. During the Grand Opening weekend information and vendor booths will be set up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and an educational learn to shoot program will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days.

The range is located in the southeast corner of the park at Highway 115 and Pine Oaks Road, directly across from Fort Carson Gate #5.

Fort Carson will host its annual “Eggsperience” Easter family festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Iron Horse Sports and Fitness Center on post.

Families who attend can hunt eggs together, make arts and crafts, skate on a temporary ice rink and visit animals in a petting zoo. Entertainment will be provided by local Millibo Art Theatre performers and will include a variety of stage acts and roaming entertainment.

The event is open to Department of Defense ID card holders, retirees and their Families. Admission is $1 per person and $5 for families of five or more. Children under three are free. Food, beverages and pictures with the Easter bunny will be available for a fee.

Founders Day Parade Marks 60th Anniversary of the Air Force Academy — Air Force Academy cadets celebrate their legacy and future with the Founders Day parade, Saturday at 10 a.m., on the Academy’s Terrazzo.

Members of the public who desire to attend the parade should enter through the North Gate entrance, at Exit 156 off of I-25, and turn left on Parade Loop. Visitors are advised to arrive early, as parade attendance and traffic are typically very high.

Mental illness touches a quarter of our society directly and impacts all communities in ways that need more attention. Colorado Springs is joining with four other regions in the state to host a series of dialogue events aimed at identifying, prioritizing and developing community-based solutions and local mental health action plans, as part of a nationwide grassroots effort known as Creating Community Solutions.

What: Free community meeting to discuss and identify mental health issues specific to the Colorado Springs region. A follow up meeting in May will focus on resources and creating action plans to address needs.
