Feds: Gun suspect wired money for pot warehouse

Prosecutors say a Colombian man arrested after raids on Colorado medical marijuana businesses wired $400,000 from Colombia to buy a pot warehouse.

Hector Diaz was charged after the November raids with possession of a firearm while in the country on a business or tourism visa. Newly filed court documents allege that he had the gun as part of his role in the marijuana industry. Prosecutors said he admitted wiring money from Colombia for the warehouse, and the house where he was arrested contained “numerous unsecured weapons.”

His lawyer didn’t immediately return a call.

The disclosure is the strongest link prosecutors have publicly made between Diaz and the marijuana industry. They still have not disclosed the reasons for the raids, which came in the weeks before Colorado allowed recreational marijuana shops to open.
