Springs officer witnesses convenience store robbery from his cruiser

A Colorado Springs police officer was just feet away when a west side convenience store was robbed Tuesday night (3/25/14).

The police department received a robbery alarm from the 7-Eleven at 8th Street and Cimarron Street at 10:13 p.m.

Officer Chris Dryman was at the intersection when he received the call. Dryman says he could see a man with a hood pulled up over his head at the counter inside the store.

Officer Dryman tried to stop the man, identified as Andrew Garcia, 21, as he left the store. Dryman says Garcia took off running and jumped into a vehicle that sped off.

Police found the vehicle a short time later and pulled it over. Three people were detained. The man who police wanted to question about the robbery tried to run away but was quickly chased down by officers.

Garcia was arrested. Police are investigating the three people who were detained during the traffic stop and have not yet determined if they will face any charges.
