Convicted robber sentenced to 298 years in prison

A man who robbed several businesses, carjacked two drivers and rammed several police vehicles will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Ivan Stamps was sentenced to 298 years in the Department of Corrections on Monday, February 24, 2014.

His crime spree began on January 26 , 2013 with the carjacking of a black Subaru station wagon at 3945 Palmer Park Blvd. and was immediately followed by the armed robbery of Joann Fabrics at 3795 Bloomington St. and King Soopers at 6030 Stetson Hills Blvd.

On January 30, 2013, a State Patrol Trooper tried to pull the stolen Subaru over; however, the driver, later identified as Stamps, failed to stop.

Police say Stamps abandoned the Subaru but immediately carjacked a white Nissan Xterra in the area of Airport Rd. and Powers Blvd. They say he tried to rob the TCF Bank at 2870 New Center Point as officers were arriving.

Stamps was arrested later that day in the area of Powers Blvd. and North Carefree Circle, but not before officers say he rammed several police vehicles, injuring two officers.

Stamps was convicted on numerous counts including aggravated robbery and assault on a peace officer. He was also convicted of being a habitual criminal. Police say Stamps was on parole when the crime spree happened.
