It’s recovery day for people in Colorado Springs
People are clearing the damage today in Colorado Springs.
It comes a day after hurricane gusts blew through the city yesterday.
Heavy winds destroyed a car port at an apartment complex off of Academy Boulevard, but the metal structure is in pieces and the parking lot is clear.
“It was incredible, they had probably eight guys. They had the whole place cleared in six hours,” apartment tenant Mitch Ducklow said.
Caution tape is left behind for parts of the blown out fence at the apartment.
Ducklow had his car trapped underneath the car port, but his car came out without a scratch.
There was a road closure to fix Penrose Hospital’s roof.
Workers used a crane to send materials to repair the damaged ventilation system.
The hospital’s courtyard still has debris from the strong winds yesterday.
There are trees in the Springs that are chopped, like at Cheyenne Mountain Middle School.
But Scott Harder’s situation isn’t as cut and dry.
Three trees hit his house, leaving it unlivable until it’s fixed.
“I’ll go to a friend’s house the next couple days,” Harder said.
His neighbors said they want to help clean up his damage.
Colorado Springs Utilities said all their customers have power again after 40 outages affected 4,000 customers throughout the day yesterday.
